Market Place
Step back in time with Year 4 as they brought the bustling markets of Ancient Egypt to life! Each group transformed into a marketplace stall, complete with a unique role, a list of goods they owned, and items they needed. The challenge? To barter and trade with other stalls to gather everything on their list.
Students practiced their speaking and negotiating skills, learning the art of persuasion and compromise. To make things even more exciting, each group was given three coins to purchase an item if a trade wasn’t possible - just like in real marketplaces!
Through this immersive activity, pupils explored how trade and travel shaped Ancient Egyptian society, discovering the importance of resources, relationships, and economic systems in the ancient world. It was a lively, hands-on way to connect history with real-world skills!

History - Pyramid Building
After learning about all the different jobs it took to build the great pyramids of Ancient Egypt, Year 4 became builders ourselves!
We discovered how architects, labourers, stone cutters, and artists all worked together to create these incredible structures. Then we put our teamwork to the test by using Lego, building bricks, and other construction materials to design and build our own pyramids.
It was a brilliant hands-on way to explore Ancient Egyptian engineering, full of creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration. Our mini pyramids might not be as big as the real ones, but they were just as impressive!
.
History - The Mummification Process
Year 4 learned about how the ancient Egyptians mummified bodies for the afterlife. To bring our learning to life, we worked in teams to “mummify” one of our classmates using toilet rolls! It was a fun and creative way to understand the process — and a great team-building activity too.

Solids, Liquids and Gases
In science, Year 4 have been investigating states of matter - learning all about solids, liquids and gases. We explored how particles move in each state by acting them out in groups: solids stayed close together, vibrating slightly; liquids flowed around one another; and gases spread out, moving freely around the room! We also sorted different materials into the correct categories. It was a fun, active way to understand how the world around us is made up of different states of matter.
History - Manchester Museum
The children had an amazing time at Manchester museum where they spent the day exploring amazing artefacts as historians! In the morning, they thought about the question "Which is the most important artefact in the museum and why?" The children looked at a range of Egyptian artefacts which gave them a deeper insight into what life was like at that time. In the afternoon, everyone explored the rest of the museum and saw lots of live reptiles, fossils and breathtaking dinosaurs! A wonderful full-filled day was had by all!

History - Gods and Goddesses Top Trumps
Year 4 had great fun playing Ancient Egyptian Gods and Goddesses Top Trumps!
We used the cards to learn more about the different deities, their powers, and what they represented in Ancient Egyptian life. As we played, we compared each god’s strength, wisdom, and special abilities to see who would come out on top.
It was a fun and competitive way to test our knowledge, and we learned lots of fascinating facts along the way!

Editing Stations – BBC 500 Words Competition
Year 4 have been busy crafting their stories for the BBC 500 Words competition! To help us make our writing the very best it can be, we took part in an exciting carousel of editing stations.
Each table focused on a different editing skill, from improving word power and strengthening connections and flow, to perfecting that all-important final sentence. We rotated around the room, sharing ideas, giving feedback, and finding ways to make our stories shine even brighter.
Watch this space for some amazing Year 4 storytellers!

Artefacts and Timeline Work
As part of our Ancient Egyptians topic, the classroom was transformed into a mini museum! Year 4 took part in a carousel activity, exploring different artefacts from Ancient Egypt. The children examined pictures of the artefacts closely, discussing what they might have been used for and coming up with thoughtful questions to research further. We then worked in groups to create a timeline of key Ancient Egyptian events, putting them in the correct chronological order. It was a fascinating way to bring history to life!
