Volunteering and Student Placements

At Greenside Primary School, we are fully committed to being an integral part of the local community and so we welcome the opportunity for volunteers to join our school. Whether it be to support a college application, as a requirement of a college course, or just to support the learning of the children, we value the contribution made by volunteers and are very grateful for their support and time.

Becoming a volunteer at Greenside:

• Firstly, you will need to download and read our Volunteer and Student Placement Policy.
• Having read the Volunteer and Student Placement Policy, you will then need to complete our Volunteer Application Document. Once completed, it must be emailed to volunteers@greenside.tameside.sch.uk
• As part of this process, we request two character references from people that have known you for a period of over 5 years. 
• If you are successful at this stage, we request a short meeting to discuss your reasons for volunteering, what the role will involve and how best we can accommodate you.
• Placements will be allocated depending on whether a class teacher can, or wish to, accommodate a volunteer. 

All posts within our school, including volunteer posts, are subject to enhanced disclosure and barring service (DBS) checks, and where applicable prohibition checks. If you are seeking a student placement, your education provider must conduct checks. If you are not enrolled on a college course and do not have a DBS certificate, a DBS application form can be collected from the school office.

Volunteers will be asked to comply with our policies and maintain our safe and secure environment. These policies can be found on the policy page and must be read prior to a placement commencing:

• Child Protection / Safeguarding Policy
• Health & Safety Policy
• Behaviour and Discipline Policy
• Staff Code of Conduct
• Whistle Blowing Policy
• Using Social Media Responsibly

You will also be asked to sign a Volunteer and Confidentiality Agreement, confirming you have read these policies.
